USER STORIES TRAINING

Agile Requirements

Agile Requirements

One of the biggest challenges development teams face is how to effectively manage customer requirements, and especially how to manage changing requirements! With its origins in Extreme Programming and born out of a desire for close customer collaboration, User Stories were first formally described in 1999. Since that time, User Stories have become a very popular lightweight requirements technique that goes hand-in-hand with popular agile methodologies such as Scrum. The promise of User Stories is that agile development teams can begin writing and demonstrating working code very early in the project lifecycle, even while allowing for requirement changes.

Managing Requirements with Agility

Managing Requirements With Agility

User stories are inexpensive, low fidelity, simple, and brief descriptions of functionality from the user’s point of view. Typically they are documented on index cards following a template script. In the spirit of test-first, the User Story also includes the customer acceptance test cases, immediately placing a high value on the quality of delivery. User Stories are estimated using a technique called “user story points”. Once your agile development team has delivered a few iterations of working code, you can average your user story points to determine your team’s velocity and make accurate predictions for future releases. Managing change becomes easy using User Stories due to their lightweight nature and ease of prioritization.
